Monarch of the house plant world, nothing can rival the amaryllis for size of bloom and brilliance of color at a time when snow covers the ground and temperatures are well below freezing in most parts of the country.
You can buy amaryllis bulbs that have been 'cold-treated' so that they'll flower on schedule during the holidays. Choose a bulb that is large and has many live roots. Place it on top of a water-filled jar. This allows roots (not bulb) to trail in water. Let roots soak up extra moisture in this way four or five days before potting.

Another plant variously named "Trumpet Vine" or "Trumpet Creeper" is the rampant climber, Campsis radicans. While the shrub species
mentioned, function as screens or informal hedges, Trumpet Creeper, as a self-clinging vine, can be allowed to climb up and cover a wall. No one who has seen this plant in the glory of its full bloom, (reddish-orange flowers) can remain indifferent. Campsis though, is very aggressive and it is best to avoid planting it next to the house, but rather on a freestanding wall instead.
Some flowering plants don't have green leaves, and they live as parasites on the roots and stems of other plants. They take amino acids and sugars from the host plant, in order to grow. Some of these combinations make up the most bizarre-looking plants ever.
Fresh-cut flowers are a beautiful and thoughtful gift. But, no matter how well they are cared for by the recipient, they will eventually wilt and die. While fresh-cut flowers are often the first choice for people who want to buy flowers, there is another group of flowering plants that offer beautiful blooms and the longevity of plants. They are flowering plants and they are both stunning and long lasting, making them a great way to commemorate almost any occasion.
Imagine walking down a shady, woodland path. Suddenly, a field of color emerges ahead of you: white flowers, red flowers, small shrubs and bushes, berries, and birds. The blooms entrance you, but you can't name a single one. Are those red flowers roses or pansies? Are those bushes rhododendrons or yews? The beautiful field could be far more interesting if you understood flowering plant identification.
